Scrap of Issued Components
Explanation
Scrapping can occur at various stages of the manufacturing process. This activity is used to scrap component
material issued on a shop order which is not suitable for use. For example, if a component is cut incorrectly or
broken, you have the option to scrap the component on the shop order and request replacement material. In such an
instance, the scrapped material would not be un-issued from the shop order, but the demand for the component
material will be increased if necessary.
To scrap issued component materials from:
- Shop Order: Click Material Actions and then Report Component Scrap.
- Shop Order Operations Reporting: Select the operation on which the scrapped
component was detected and click Report Component Scrap.
- Shop Floor Workbench: Select the operation on which the scrapped component was detected, click
Scrap and then Component.
- Shop Floor Workbench/Materials: Expand the operation, select the component to be scrapped from
the Materials tab and click Scrap Component.
- Shop Floor Workbench: Open the Operation Guide and click
Scrap Component.
- Shop Floor Workbench: Open the Operation Guide, in the
Materials section, select the component to be scrapped, and click Scrap.
- Shop Order Materials, Shop Order/Materials, and Disposition Shop
Order/Materials: Select the component to be scrapped, click Component Scrap and then
Report Scrap.
In the assistant:
- Select the component to be scrapped in the Component field.
- When opened from Shop Order Materials, Shop Order/Materials,
Disposition Shop Order/Materials, Shop Floor Workbench/Materials or
Operation Guide, section Materials, the selected
component appears by default.
- If you want to register the scrap against a specific issue transaction, disable the Distribute
Scrap option, else system will automatically distribute the scrap against the issue transactions. For
lot/batch tracked components it is not recommended to distribute the scrap to ensure the scrap is registered
against the correct lot/batch number. When scrapping serial tracked components you must select the individual
serial numbers.
- Enter the Qty to Scrap and select a Scrap Reason.
- Optionally, select the Operation No on which the scrapped component was detected. When
reporting scrap from an operation line, this operation number appears by default.
By performing this activity:
- The cost of the scrapped component material stays associated with the shop order.
- The demand for replacement component material for the shop order is visible, when the quantity required for
the component is increased due to the quantity scrapped exceeds the planned scrap quantity.
- The scrapped components will not be available for use in as-built structures, as the specific issued material
is identified as scrapped and unavailable to as-built structures on the shop order.
Scrapping of components can also be performed with MRO shop orders of the MRO Disassembly, Repair,
and MRO Assembly types. However, due to the pegging structure used to maintain order relationships, you
can only scrap materials that have the Inventory Order supply code, those that are added manually to the
shop order, and not pegged to another MRO order level.
Prerequisites
- At least one component must have been issued on the shop order.
- A scrap reason must have been defined.
- On a repair shop order, the component part that is the same as the shop order main product can only be
scrapped when Multilevel Repair is disabled, and the Demand Source is not
Maintenance Repair or Overhaul or Component Repair Order.
System Effects
As a result of this activity:
- The scrapped material will remain issued to the shop order but will be identified as scrapped. A
manufacturing material history record will be created to record the scrap event. In addition, the quantity
scrapped for the material line will be incremented.
- The scrapped material is unavailable for use in as-built structures.
- The scrapped material cannot be unissued.
- The quantity scrapped on the component material line will be increased. If the scrapped quantity of the
component on the shop order exceeds the planned scrap quantity, the quantity required for the component will be
increased.
- If the scrapped component is lot tracked, but not serial tracked, then a history record will be added to the
Part Lot Batch page. If the part is serial tracked, a history record will be added to the Part
Serial page. The current position will change from Issued to Unallocated, and the
operational condition will change to Non Operational.
- On a repair shop order, when scrapping a serial tracked component part that is the same as the shop order
main product, the scrapped serial number(s) will be unreserved from the shop order.
