Simulate Multilevel Material Availability
Explanation
Use this activity to check the availability of a part and its components based on a specific need date and
quantity. Only plannable and buildable alternates with Structure Type set to
Manufacturing, Remanufacturing and Purchase can be selected for
this simulation, and only component parts with Part Type set to Purchased,
Purchased (raw), Manufactured, Manufactured Recipe and
Remanufactured will be considered. The data can be sorted by Revision No in
descending order.
To perform this activity, configure the below options in the Simulate Options section, then
click Simulate Material Availability:
- Need Date - The date on which the part quantity is required to be available in
inventory.
- Quantity - The demand quantity of the part for which the availability simulation is
performed.
-
Project / Activity Seq No - The project/activity for which the availability
simulation is performed. Netting of the top part and the non-standard planned components will be as follows:
- If a Project is entered and there is no value entered in Activity Seq
No field, parts will be netted from the project inventory.
- If both Project and the Activity Seq No fields are null, parts will be
netted from standard inventory. If “#" is entered , parts will be netted from standard inventory
and project inventory of all the projects.
- Note: Standard planned components and their child parts are netted from standard
inventory.
- Skip Top Level Netting - Enable this option to ignore the on-hand quantity of the top level
part. I.e., component availability check would be performed for the total quantity in the
Quantity field.
- All Levels - Enable this option to calculate and view the availability for all levels of the
product structure (BOM). If components have sufficient on-hand and open supply to cover demand then the netting
explosion is stopped. Unaffected components are removed.
- Consider Alternate Component Factor - Enable this option to reduce the total simulated
demand quantities for the components with the quantities expected to be fulfilled by their alternate components
given the Alternate Component Factor defined in the structure. Note that this option is only
available when the structure type is Remanufacturing.
Once the calculation completed, the list will show the availability of each part in the structure. The
Availability Message field helps in determining whether or not to create new supplies for the
given part. The messages and the respective indications are as follows:
- Available covers Demand: there is no need to create new supply.
- Available + Open Supply covers Demand: there is no need to create new supply.
- Need Orders: there is a need to create new supply. However the calculated start date of this
supply will be later than or equal to today (i.e., the system date).
- Min Simulated Start Date earlier than Today: there is a need to create new supply. The
calculated start date of this supply will be earlier than today (i.e., the system date).
- Not Calculated, Parent Qty OK: the components have not been netted because there is
sufficient parent quantity available. This message is only displayed if the Show All Levels
option is enabled.
Select Show Shortages Only to display only the parts for which there is a material shortage,
i.e. components for which the projected quantity on hand on the required date is less than zero.
Prerequisites
- An inventory part must be defined and must have a buildable structure of type Purchase,
Manufacturing or Remanufacturing.
- To analyze the availability of lower levels of a component part, it must not have Part Type
set to Disassembly Component, By-Product, Co-Product or
Core.
- Material lines that are customer owned, or not consumed will not be considered.
System Effects
The system calculates the availability of the selected part under user-specified simulated conditions.
