Install Part
Explanation
This activity is used to install into the serial structure a structure entry lacking a serial number. You can
connect both serialized and non-serialized parts using this activity. Only a part that is the same as or is an
alternate for the part that was previously installed in the structure position can be installed. When installing
parts to a structure position, you are allowed to install any prime parts or valid alternates, provided that the
operational status of the structure was not changed from Planned For Operation. Once the operational status
of the structure is changed from Planned For Operation, rules of interchangeability will be applied and you
will no longer be allowed to install alternate parts that do not meet the validations for interchangeability of
alternate parts. Note that it is also possible to install any prime parts or alternates for structure positions in
completely new structures which are In Operation or Out Of Operation, but where no parts are
installed after a structure change was performed. If nothing has been installed in the structure position the prime
part of the serial structure template is used.
When a part is installed into a structure having an operational status of either In Operation or Out
Of Operation, an entry will be created in the replacement history.
Depending on your workflow, you can perform this activity by clicking the option Perform Structure
Change from one of the following pages.
- Manage Serial Structure
- Serial Initialization
- Perform Structure Change
- Execute Work Task
- Flight Log/Fault
Following is a description of the information that can be entered in each assistant step.
Step 1 - Structure Change Selection
- Select the install part option from the structure change section.
Note: If you are using the Perform Structure Change assistant page,
Execute Work Task page or the Flight Log/Fault tab to perform
this activity, first you have to select the serial for which you want to perform a structure change. If the
structure change is to be performed further down in the structure of the selected serial, enable the
Perform Structure Change for Sub Serial option and enter the required sub serial details.
Step 2 - Structure Change Details
- The vehicle ID, top part number and top serial number appear automatically in the Install or Swap into
section. A structure position must exist for a part to be installed in the structure, enter the structure
position in which the part is to be installed.
- Enter a part and a part revision. You can enter the workshop responsible for installing the part. If you want
to connect the part installation to a maintenance event, enter a value for the Mx Event Number field.
- Enter the date and time the structure change is to be performed. Enable the Unscheduled Removal option
if this structure change is to be an unscheduled removal. Enable the Run in Batch option if you want
access rights for the installed part (only if child serials are installed in the part) to be updated through a
batch job.
Prerequisites
System Effects
- You will fit the selected non-serialized part to a predefined serial structure position.
- The structure position into which the part is installed will become an installed structure position.
- If the part is installed on a work task, an install transaction will be created in the structure change log
for the work task.
- If the installation causes a Mandatory type dependency rule to be violated, the operational condition
of the parent serial will be set to Non Operational.
- The Item Installed option will be enabled for the installed part.
- If the part installed is defined as an alternate with the Qualified Interchangeable interchangeability
rule, the alternate must be approved before the operational condition for the structure can be set to
Operational. For more information, refer to the activity Approve or Reject Structure Changes.
