Define Environmental Properties of a Substance

Explanation

You can register and maintain the environmental properties of a substance in the Environmental Properties, Equivalence Factors, Energy and Criteria tabs of the Substance pageEquivalence Factors are defined for date intervals, meaning you can define specific values, e.g for one year and others for next year.

The toggle properties in the Criteria tab can be configured. These toggles are of two types, system defined and user defined. The system defined toggles can not be renamed but activated/deactivated through the Used column. The user defined toggles can also be renamed. Only the Used properties are visible in the pages where substances are present. The cofiguration is performed in the Emission Substance Properties page

Substances with defined Environmental properties can be connected to part specific emissions, work center emissions, and emissions per supplier for purchase part.

A substance can be connected to a substance group, which can be used to categorize similar substances.

A substance also needs to have its Environmental Substance Type defined. This attribute indicates whether the substance is categorized as a substance, emission, compound, or substance family. If it's categorized as compound or substance family, you also have the option to indicate its major contained substance, called Threshold Substance., but it's not mandatory. A substance defined as a substance family consists of multiple substances that might impact the same regulation threshold, defined for the substance family. If a threshold substance is indicated all contained substance in a family must share same threshold substance or be the threshold sunstance itself.

The validity flag controls whether a substance can be added as an emission on the Eco-Footprint pages, where emissions can be added. The flag has no impact on calculations for substances that have already been added.
