Identify Serials in Stock

Explanation

Use this activity to identify a specific serial number in stock even if the normal setting for the part is to not track serials in inventory. This activity could be used when you need to send a specific serial number on service to an external supplier. Then you need to distinguish this serial from the other parts until it has been sent to the supplier for service.

If the Serial Scan function is used for scanning barcodes generated for serials, you can rapidly scan a set of barcodes. No validation is performed while scanning within the Serial Scan function, except for identifying duplicate entries. Once the scanned list is imported into the Identify Serials assistant, the full validation will then take place.

Prerequisites

• The part must be set up as a serial tracked part which is not tracked in inventory i.e. set up with serial tracking at receipt and issue, but not tracked in inventory.
• There must be a quantity in stock with serial number equal to * (asterisk).

System Effects

• The serial number will be tracked in inventory until it has been issued from stock.
• If the serial number is received into stock again later, it will be treated as any other serial and will not be tracked in inventory.
