Pick Handling Unit by Choice
Explanation
What you pick must correspond to the material demand line, but it doesn't have to completely correspond to
what is reserved on the pick list. I.e. you can pick another handling unit on another location which contains
another lot batch, serial etc. The following source references are support in in pick by choice:

Prerequisites
- The Pick by Choice list in the Site/Warehouse Management/General page must have been set
to Not Reserved, Not Pick Listed, Not on Printed Pick List, or Allowed.
- Pick by choice can only be used for the source reference types listed under the explanation above.
- Pick by choice is only supported for homogenous handling units or handling unit structures.
- Pick by choice is not allowed on a handling unit if part of the content, two out of five serial numbers for
example, has been picked already and shipment inventory is not used.
- Pick by choice is not allowed if the reservation record is blocked for pick by choice. A handling unit is
considered blocked if any parts in the HU are blocked.
System Effects
- The handling unit will, if possible, be picked according to the rules defined in the site and the logic at
picking for each source reference type. E.g. move to shipment inventory when connected to shipment, issue of work
task material line.
- It is possible to pick the originally reserved handling unit through pick by choice. It is also included in
the List of Values.
- When you do under-picking on a customer order pick list, the remaining quantity will be unreserved if the
customer order type or shipment type is not configured to keep the remaining reservation.
Example: You have a pick list with a pallet that contains two boxes with only one part and a
total quantity to be picked is 15 pcs. Instead of picking the pallet you pick another box which contains 5 pcs
using the pick by choice functionality, the remaining quantity of 10 pcs will then be unreserved. For work task
we always keep the remaining reservation.
