Pick Part by Choice
Explanation
Use this activity to pick a part by choice, i.e. to report picking of parts in a more flexible way. What you
pick must correspond to the material demand line, but it doesn't have to completely correspond to what is
reserved on the pick list. I.e. you can pick from another location, lot batch, serial etc. The following source
references are support in in pick by choice:
- Customer Order
- Distribution Order
- Shipment Order
- Shop Order
- Material Requisition
- Project Deliverables
- Repair RMA
- Supplier Material
- Work Task
- DOP (no picking, reserved material is a candidate to pick)
If the pick list line is connected to a shipment, the Pick by Choice and Pack command is enabled. By running
this command, it is possible to pick parts and at the same time attach them to a shipment handling unit, i.e.
"pick and pack". The Pick by Choice assistant then gives you the possibility to attach
the picked quantity to a new or an existing handling unit. There are also options to create SSCC for the handling
unit and to print handling unit labels and packing list. No separate basic data is needed but if you want a default
handling unit type to be fetched for new handling units then you can set that in Site/Shipment
Management page.
This activity can be performed through Report Picking of Pick List Lines,
Report Picking of Shop Order Pick List and Warehouse Data Collection
pages.
Prerequisites
- The Pick by Choice setting in the Warehouse Management/General tab in the
Site page must have been set to Not Reserved, Not Pick Listed, Not on
Printed Pick List, or Allowed.
- The pick list line cannot be Blocked for Pick by Choice.
- Pick by choice can only be used for the source reference types listed under the explanation above.
- When doing pick by choice for customer order reservations, the Part Availability Controls at Pick By
Choice toggle in the Site/ Sales and Procurement/Sales/General tab decides if part availability control
is considered. If enabled the part availability control setting of the material is considered, otherwise
ignored.
System Effects
- The part will, if possible, be picked according to the rules defined in the site and the logic at picking for
each source reference type. E.g. move to shipment inventory when connected to shipment, issue of work task
material line.
- It is possible to pick the originally reserved inventory part in stock record through pick by choice. It is
also included in the List of Values.
- When the user tries to pick from another inventory part in stock record, reservation and pick will be done
according to the order below. Example: If the inventory part in stock record the user tries to pick from
includes only reserved customer order lines and pick listed customer order lines the reserved customer order
lines will be unreserved first. Note: The system will always un-reserve a order line fully, i.e. no
partial un-reserve will be done even though the full quantity is not needed. All reservation will be done using
the automatic reservation, if this fails for any reason the user will receive an error message.
- Available quantity.
- Reserved quantity - If several orders exists the one with latest planned due date (for customer order and
shipment order) or required date (for shop order) will be reserved and picked. If several orders have the
same planned due or required date the system tries to minimize the number of orders to be unreserved.
- Pick listed quantity - If several orders exists the one with latest planned due date (for customer order
and shipment order) or required date (for shop order) will be reserved and picked. If several orders have the
same planned due or required date the system tries to minimize the number of orders to be unreserved.
- Printed Pick List quantity - If several orders exists the one with latest planned due date (for customer
order and shipment order) or required date (for shop order) will be reserved and picked. If several orders
have the same planned due or required date the system tries to minimize the number of orders to be
unreserved.
- If you pick less than what is reserved, the initial reservation will be decreased with the quantity picked
from the pick by choice dialog. Note: If you enter a record that corresponds to another already
existing reservation in the pick list, and you pick less than what is reserved the remaining quantity will be
unreserved if the customer order type or shipment type is not configured to keep the remaining reservation. For
work task we always keep the remaining reservation.
- If you have used Pick by Choice and Pack then the picked quantity will be attached to a
shipment handling unit.
