Add Shop Order WIP Product
Explanation
Use this activity to add a WIP product line to a specific shop order. A WIP product allows you to trace where
work-in-progress material, produced in a shop order operation, resides in inventory.
Add a WIP product by creating a new line on the Shop Order/WIP Products tab. In the
WIP Product Part field, enter the required part number. In the From Operation
field, specify the operation that produces the WIP product. In the To Operation field, specify the
operation where the WIP product will be issued. If this field is left blank, the WIP product will be issued when
the main product on the shop order is received into inventory.
Prerequisites
- The shop order status must not be Closed or Cancelled.
- The shop order must contain at least one operation.
- The shop order must not have received quantity.
- The shop order type must be one of the following:
- Manufacturing, Remanufacturing, Repair,
Prototype, or Disassembly.
- If the order type is Disassembly, the To Operation field is mandatory
since no main product is received from such orders.
- The Part Type must be set to WIP Product.
- The part must have the same unit of measure as the shop order’s main product.
- A specific part and From Operation combination can only be used once per shop order.
- The From Operation must:
- Not be an outside operation, nor have a split operation that is an outside operation.
- Not have Manual Operation Qty enabled.

- Not be a split operation or have split operations.
- Not have any quantity reported as completed or scrapped.
- Have an operation sequence greater than the From Operation.
System Effects
As a result of this activity, a WIP product line is added to the shop order, enabling tracking of intermediate
work-in-progress inventory between operations.
