New WIP Product Part
Explanation
Use this activity to create a new inventory part with the Part Type set to WIP
Product. A WIP product allows you to trace where work-in-progress material, produced in a shop order
operation, resides in inventory.
To create a new WIP product part, open the WIP Products tab and create a new record.
Enter the desired new part number in the WIP Product Part field. In the New WIP
Product Part dialog, enter the Part No, Part Description, and
Part Status. If a Default Part Status for WIP Products has been defined for the
site, it is automatically displayed. Note: Only part statuses that do not allow supplies or demands can be used for
WIP products.
Prerequisites
- When creating a WIP product part for an existing master part:
- The unit of measure of the master part must match the unit of measure of the main product.
- The master part must not be configurable, serial tracked or lot/batch tracked.
- When creating a WIP product part for a part that already exists as an inventory part on another site, the
Part Type for the existing inventory parts must also be set to WIP
Product.
System Effects
- A new inventory part record is created on the current site with Part Type set to WIP
Product.
- If the part number does not already exist as a master part, a new master part record is created
automatically.
- The unit of measure is inherited from the main product.
- Zero Cost is set to Zero Cost Only for the new part.
