Define Work Center Resources
Explanation
This activity is used to define resources within a work center. These resources are used for planning and
scheduling work. When you create a new work center, a default resource with the same name as the work center is
automatically registered. You can define multiple resources for the same work center, such as multiple machines or
assembly stations capable of performing the same type of work.
To define a new resource, add a new record on the Work Center/Resources page and enter
the resource ID and description. Expand the row to enter additional details:
- Availability tab: Use this tab to define the date range during which the resource
is available and specify how efficiently the resource performs work relative to the standard time defined on the
routing operation. An efficiency of 100% means the resource performs work at the standard time. An efficiency of
50% means the resource requires twice the standard time.
- Locations tab: Define the inbound, outbound and tool locations for the resource.
Locations specified at the resource level take priority over locations defined at the work center level.
Prerequisites
A work center must have been created before starting this activity.
System Effects
As a result of this activity the system defines resources in a work center.
When a work center has multiple resources and when the work center is connected to several operations of a shop
order resource assignment will be as follows:
- If a Preferred Resource has been defined for the operation, it is assigned first.
- If any work center resource is not loaded and all resources are of 100% efficiency, resources are assigned to
operations according to alphabetical order of the resource ID.
- If all resources are loaded with the same load and they have different resource efficiencies, the first
resource to get assigned to the first operation is the resource having the maximum efficiency. The same
logic follows when a shop order with many operations and resources is connected to the work center.
- If the work center resources have different loads and the same efficiency, the resource having the minimum
load will get assigned to the first operation and the same logic follows for all operations and work center
resources.
- If the work center resources have different loads and different efficiencies, then the system considers
"hours loaded"/Efficiency value and the resource that has a minimum value gets assigned to the first
operation of the shop order.
These calculations are carried out for each and every operation before the resources are assigned. Therefore,
there might be instances where the same resource appears in two consecutive operations.
