Use this activity to define a new tool group ID. When you create a tool group, you can alos create and connect a tool/equipment to the group. A resource group of type Tool/Equipment Group with Use in Manufacturing selected is also created. This resource group is a generic shared across sites by connecting additional sites to the same resource group. You can view the resource group on the Resource Details page.
Use the Manufacturing Tool Group page or Manufacturing Tool Groups page to view, add, or edit records of tool group IDs.
Optionally, you can specify external setup and teardown time in Time Settings tab. These values represent time required to prepare and handle the tool before and after it is used for a shop order operation. The times apply to all tools and equipment in the group. When values are specified, resource activities, activity loads, allocations and allocations load are created when the tool group is added as a demand to a shop order operation and if a tool/equipment is assigned.
You can link tool group IDs to routings, standard operations or control plans to specify tool groups to use.
The tool group is a scheduling constraint if a finite shop order schedule is created using APB or MSO.
The tool group can be finite or infinite and has a connected calendar where its availability is defined.
If tool tracking is to be used for a tool/equipment group, Tool Tracking must be set to Track Check Out/In on the Tools/Equipment tab of the Resource Details page for that resource group.
