Load Asset

Explanation

This activity is used to start the import process for an asset by uploading a CSV file. Fleet maintenance engineers and other users responsible for asset induction or setup can use this functionality to upload asset information via an external file. After you review and validate the uploaded data, it is transformed into a serial structure in FAM (Fleet and Asset Management). Refer to the activities Validate Asset, Correct Errors, and Process Serial Structure for more information.

The Import Asset functionality uses the External Files Toolkit capabilities in IFS Cloud. The external file template VimSerialLoaderFileTemplate defines the format and characteristics of data being read into the system for asset import. For example,

• Values in the CSV file must be separated by a semi-colon (;). Therefore, semi-colons cannot be included within the value.
• Dates in the file must use the format YYYY-MM-DD.

On the Import Asset page, search for the template part that corresponds to the asset being uploaded. Serial structures in FAM are always created based on a template structure. Mapping to the correct template ensures that the appropriate configuration rules are applied.

Click the Load Asset command to open an assistant that facilitates the CSV file upload. The template part defaults if already populated, but you can change it or specify it manually. Upload the CSV file and click Load.

During upload, a preliminary check is performed to ensure the topmost entry (i.e., with structure position TEMPLATE) contains a value for Serial Number, and that the template part number and revision of the topmost entry match those specified in the Load Asset assistant. The check also verifies that the data is readable according to the setting defined in the external file template. If any validation fails, the load will end with an error.

Only one import exists for an asset at a time. Uploading a CSV file for the same asset removes any existing import and restarts the process with a new load ID.

Prerequisites

• There must be a valid template structure for the topmost serial (e.g., if a GE90 engine is being uploaded, there must be a separate template for the GE90 part). The template must be in the Active status.

System Effects

After a successful upload:

• If the Template Part Revision and/or Part Revision is not provided in the file for the topmost entry, the revision entered in the Load Asset assistant will be used.
• If the Template Part Revision and/or Part Revision is not provided in the file for child entries, the Last Revision of the corresponding engineering part will be used.
• The fields in the header of the Import Asset page are populated with the topmost serial from the uploaded information.
• The uploaded information is displayed in the Import Details tab.
• The Serial Exists in FAM badge is updated to indicate whether the serial already exists in FAM.
• The Validate Asset functionality is automatically triggered. The overall import status is set to Validation in Progress if errors exist, or Validation Completed if only warnings exist.
• If no warnings or errors exist in the Validation Log tab, the Process Serial Structure functionality is automatically triggered. If the serial structure is created or updated without errors, the overall status is set to Imported.
• Any previous load for the same asset is replaced by a new import.
