Process Serial Structure
Explanation
This activity is used to create or update the serial structure as part of the import process.
You can run the Process Serial Structure command once all errors in the
validation log are corrected, warnings evaluated, and the overall import status is set
to Validation Completed. Entries with the Excluded status are
not considered during serial structure creation or updates. If an excluded part
has parts below it, those parts are also excluded.
Note: Not all conditions and configuration rules can be identified during validation of
the uploaded data. Some issues may only be detected when the serial structure is created or updated, which can
result in errors. For example, if a part is not a valid alternate, Process Serial
Structure will stop with an error.
When a new serial structure is created in FAM from the import:
- It is created in the Planned for Operation status.
- If a structure change date is provided for the asset’s topmost entry, that date will be
defaulted as the Structure Change Date when the structure is first set to In
Operation or Out of Operation.
- The date in the Set Serial In Operation or Set Serial Out of
Operation assistants is used to record operational loggings based on the uploaded usage values.
The origin of these loggings is Initialization
Logging. Existing validation logic for operational values is applied.
- Operational loggings, replacement history, and stress rating history are generated when the structure is
set In Operation or Out of Operation.
When an existing serial structure in FAM is re-imported, the Process Serial
Structure functionality performs the following updates:
- Serials that are In Operation or Out of Operation will
have the uploaded usage values added as operational loggings. If a structure change date provided in
the CSV file for the asset’s topmost entry, that date is used. Otherwise, the current date and time are
used.
- The origin of these loggings is Initialization Logging. Existing validation
logic for operational values is applied.
- Automatic structure changes are performed where differences exist between the uploaded data and the current
FAM configuration. The information in the import file is considered as the correct version.
- Replacement history is created using the structure change date provided in the CSV file for the specific
structure entry. Otherwise, the current date and time are used.
- Note that for removals, if no structure change date is provided for the specific structure entry, the
structure change date of the topmost entry is used.
- Stress rating history is created.
Example: An engine was received in January, maintained and reassembled, then returned to the customer in an
operational condition in February. The engine returns to the MRO in October with a different fan blade. These
differences are identified when running Validate Asset by comparing the FAM
serial structure with the uploaded data and recorded as warnings in the Import
Asset/Validation Log tab for user evaluation. When Process Serial
Structure is run, the structure change is performed automatically by removing the fan
blade currently installed in the position and installing the fan blade from the import
file.
Supported structure changes (Replacements, Robbing, Installing and Removing):
- A part is already installed in the non-serialized structure position. When Process Serial
Structure is run, the part currently installed will be removed and the part from the file will be
installed if all other validations are fulfilled.
- A serial is already installed in the given structure position. When Process Serial
Structure is run, the serial currently installed in the position will be removed and replaced with
the serial from the file if all other validations are fulfilled.
- A serial provided in the import file exists in a valid operational status, has a current positon
of In Facility or Issued (not to an order), and is not
installed in a structure. The system will attempt to install it when running Process Serial
Structure.
- A serial provided in the import file exists and is installed in the structure of a different parent
than the one specified in the file. When Process Serial Structure is run, the serial
will be removed from its current parent and installed in the parent specified in the import data, if all other
validations are fulfilled.
Prerequisites
- The overall import status must be Validation Completed.
System Effects
- The overall status of the import is updated to Imported once all errors are
resolved.
- A new serial structure is created, or the existing structure is updated for the
asset.
- New serial structures can be set In Operation or Out of
Operation when ready to be used. At this time, operational loggings, replacement, and stress rating
history entries are generated.
- Existing serial structures are updated, with operational loggings added based on the uploaded usage values,
replacement history entries created for structure entries, and any necessary structure changes applied
automatically.
