Approval to Defer Fault
Explanation
This activity is used by MOC to approve the use of a deferral reference (typically MEL/CDL) for the fault.
Approval generates an MOC authorization number and allows the fault to be deferred (immediately by MOC or after
technician job-stop, depending on configuration).
Prerequisites
- Pending Reference Approval exists for the fault/deferral reference.
- MEL/CDL (or other approved) deferral reference is appropriate and cumulative restrictions are
acceptable.
- Dispatch operational acceptance is confirmed when required by operator procedure.
System Effects
- MOC authorization number is generated and recorded against the fault/deferral.
- Depending on configuration, the fault may be deferred automatically on approval, or the technician completes
deferral (job stop / electronic sign-off).
- Approved reference and authorization details appear on Open Fault; history notes are updated.
- Follow-on recurring inspections linked to the deferral reference are initiated when applicable.
