Add Subtask

Explanation

Technicians, crew leads, and supervisors can add subtasks to a fault so related work is linked and executed as a unit. Subtasks help distribute tasks and improve traceability of actions taken to resolve the fault.

You can add a subtask from the Subtasks tab on the Task Details or Fault Details page by clicking the '+' button or the Add Subtask button. The Add Subtask assistant opens.

The Configuration slot defaults to the fault's configuration slot. You can select a different configuration slot, which refreshes the task definition list to show definitions applicable to the selected slot.

The Add Subtask assistant offers three options for creating the subtask:

Create task based on requirement or job card task definition

This option is shown and selected by default only when the ALLOW_REQ_CORRECTIVE_ACTIONS configuration parameter is set to TRUE in the Configuration Parameters page.

When you select this option, the Add Subtask assistant shows requirement task definitions for the aircraft. The list does not include standalone job cards, FOLLOW requirements linked to an active REPREF definition, or requirements assigned to a maintenance program. If a requirement is not directly executable, its linked job cards appear in a separate Job Cards section. The Executable Requirement column shows whether you can work the requirement itself or must use its job cards.

You can optionally enable the Show On Condition Task Definitions on Sub Config Slots filter to include on-condition task definitions from sub-configuration slots beneath the selected configuration slot.

After selecting a task definition from the list, click Save or Save & Open:

Create task based on job card task definition

When you select this option, the Add Subtask assistant lists job card definitions, including both standalone job cards and job cards linked to requirement task definitions. Job Card definitions with classes OPENPANEL and CLOSEPANEL are excluded from the list.

Select a job card definition and click Save or Save & Open. The Task Details page opens, showing the Subtask of field with a link to the parent fault and the Job Card Task Definition field with the definition details.

Create ad-hoc task

When you select Create Ad-hoc Task, you can define the subtask without using a task definition:

The subtask's aircraft and work package automatically match the parent fault. Click Save or Save & Open to create the subtask. The Task Details page displays the Subtask of field with a link to the parent fault.

After you create a subtask, it appears on the Subtasks tab of the parent fault. In line maintenance, the subtask also appears on the Workscope tab in the Line Maintenance Work Package Execution page. In hangar maintenance, the subtask appears on the Tasks page and the Workscope tab in the Hangar Maintenance Work Package page. The subtask is also visible on the Task Assignments page.

Note: Subtasks cannot be added on another subtask. You can only add subtasks directly to a fault.

Note: The fault cannot be completed until all linked subtasks are completed. For more information, see Sign Off Task and Defer Fault.

Note: When the SUPPRESS_DUPLICATE_TASKS configuration parameter is set to TRUE, adding the same job card (or a non-executable requirement that creates job cards) as a subtask to the same fault or to different faults in the same work package does not create a second task. The first subtask remains the one you execute, and the other faults show the same subtask because only one task with the same requirement or job card definition can exist in the work package when the parameter is TRUE. If that first subtask is deferred, the suppressed task becomes unsuppressed and is the task you can execute.

Note: When SUPPRESS_DUPLICATE_TASKS and SUPPRESS_EXECUTABLE_REQUIREMENTS are both TRUE, the same behavior applies to executable requirement subtasks. Only the first executable requirement subtask that was added is available to work in the work package.
