Run MRP Simulation Using Simulation Profile

Explanation

Use this activity to run a Material Requirements Planning (MRP) simulation for a Material Planning Scenario other than scenario 1, based on the supply and demand data stored in a simulation profile. Open the Perform MRP Simulation assistant.

When the Simulation Source is Simulation Profile, the simulation uses only the data held in the simulation profile for the selected site and Material Planning Scenario. It does not take a snapshot of the live situation. All independent demands, open supply orders, and on-hand balances come from the profile, including any additional demands defined on it. Key planning parameters also come from the profile, unless a planning lever is used to override them for selected parts. This gives a fixed and repeatable baseline, which makes this simulation source suitable for comparing planning scenarios over time. You can review and edit the profile data on the Simulation Profile - MRP Parts page.

Just as with a live MRP calculation, if there are top-level parts planned with the Master Schedule, it is recommended to begin with a Master Schedule Level 1 simulation for the same Material Planning Scenario. If all the top-level parts are MRP-planned, it is enough to start with an MRP simulation, because during the MRP process, when a child part is Master Schedule-planned, a Master Schedule calculation for that part is performed automatically.

Under Scenario Selection, select the Simulation Type and the Material Planning Scenario, and set the Simulation Source to Simulation Profile.

You can run this simulation for a single Site or for a Planning Network. When you run it for a planning network, every site in the network is simulated, including sites that have no planning lever connected. Selective simulation is not available when the Simulation Source is Simulation Profile, because the profile holds the complete supply and demand data set for the site and Material Planning Scenario. To simulate a subset of parts, use Live Snapshot or Live Snapshot with Additional Demands as the Simulation Source.

Under Parameters, select the Site or the Planning Network, depending on the simulation type. You can also specify the run date and the MRP horizon. The remaining options work as in a live MRP run, for example, Stop MRP on Error, Plan Safety Stock Receipt considering MRP Run Date, and Plan Alternate Component.

To override key planning parameters for selected parts during the run, for example, the planning method, safety stock, lot sizes, or primary supplier, select a Planning Lever for a site simulation or a Network Lever for a planning network simulation. For more information, refer to the About Planning Levers document.

Enable the Run Integrated with CRP toggle to calculate simulated machine and labor operation loads for the simulated supply.
