Run MS Level 1 Simulation Using Simulation Profile

Explanation

Use this activity to run a Master Schedule Level 1 simulation for a Material Planning Scenario other than scenario 1, based on the supply and demand data stored in a simulation profile. Open the Calculate Master Schedule Level 1 assistant.

When the Simulation Source is Simulation Profile, the simulation uses only the data held in the Master Schedule simulation profile for the selected site and Material Planning Scenario. It does not take a snapshot of the live situation. All forecasts, actual demands, open supply orders, and on-hand balances come from the profile, including any additional demands defined on it. Key planning parameters also come from the profile, unless a planning lever is used to override them for selected parts. This gives a fixed and repeatable baseline, which makes this simulation source suitable for comparing planning scenarios over time. You can review and edit the profile data on the Simulation Profile - Master Schedule Parts page.

If there are top-level parts planned with the Master Schedule, it is recommended to begin the simulation with this activity and to continue with an MRP simulation for the same Material Planning Scenario afterwards.

Under Parameters, select the Site and the Material Planning Scenario. Scenario 1 is the live scenario and cannot be selected for a simulation. The remaining options work as in a live Master Schedule Level 1 calculation, for example, the run date and Stop MS on Error.

This simulation covers all Master Schedule Level 1 parts on the selected site. Selective simulation is not available when the Simulation Source is Simulation Profile, because the profile holds the complete supply and demand data set for the site and Material Planning Scenario. To simulate a single part, use Live Snapshot or Live Snapshot with Additional Demands as the Simulation Source.

Under Simulation Controls, set the Simulation Source to Simulation Profile. The Simulation Controls section appears only when the selected Material Planning Scenario is other than scenario 1.

Under Simulation Controls, you can also select a Site Planning Lever to override key planning parameters for selected parts during the run, for example, the planning method, safety stock, lot sizes, or primary supplier. For more information, refer to the About Planning Levers document.

Enable the Run Integrated with CRP toggle to calculate simulated machine and labor operation loads for the simulated supply.

Enable the Start site MRP process once MS completes toggle to continue with an MRP simulation for the same site and Material Planning Scenario, using the same Simulation Source and planning lever. Specify the MRP horizon and the MRP options for that run.

This job is posted as a background job and can be scheduled for later execution.
