Run PMRP Simulation Using Live Snapshot with Additional Demands

Explanation

Use this activity to run a Project Material Requirements Planning (PMRP) simulation for a Material Planning Scenario other than Scenario 1 using a snapshot of the live project planning data together with additional demands defined for the scenario. Open the Perform PMRP Simulation assistant. The simulation plans project parts per project activity following the same rules as the live PMRP process, but the results exist only within the selected Material Planning Scenario.

When the Simulation Source is set to Live Snapshot with Additional Demands, the simulation uses a snapshot of the live project planning data taken when the job runs, in the same way as the Live Snapshot simulation source, and then adds the additional demands defined on the simulation profile for the site and Material Planning Scenario. Use this simulation source to answer questions such as whether a possible new project demand can be covered on top of the commitments that already exist.

The simulation reads only the additional demands from the simulation profile. All other supply, demand, and planning parameters come from the live data, unless a planning lever is used to override the planning parameters for selected parts. Additional demands for project parts are defined per project activity on the Additional Demands tab on the Simulation Profile - MRP Parts page, and each demand is included only when its Include in Simulation toggle is enabled.

Because the live data is read at the time the job runs, two runs started at different times can give different results. When you need a fixed and repeatable baseline for comparing planning scenarios over time, use Simulation Profile as the Simulation Source instead.

Under Scenario Selection, select the Calculation Type and the Material Planning Scenario, and set the Simulation Source to Live Snapshot with Additional Demands.

You can run this simulation with the Calculation Type set to Per Project PNG, Per Activity, or Per Planned Netting Group. For any calculation type, you can limit the simulation to a subset of parts under PMRP Selection, for example, by part, planner or buyer, product family, product code, commodity group, part type, lead time code, or low level code. When you limit the run, only the additional demands for the selected parts are included.

Under Parameters, select the Site and, depending on the calculation type, the Project ID, the Activity Seq, or the Planned Netting Group. You can also specify the run date and the MRP horizon.

The remaining options work as in a live PMRP run, for example, Stop Project MRP on error and Plan Safety Stock Receipt on PMRP Run Date. For the Per Activity calculation type, you can also enable the Exclude PPSAs grouped under any PNG toggle.

To override planning parameters for selected parts during the simulation, for example, the planning method, safety stock, lot sizes, or primary supplier, select a Planning Lever. For more information, refer to the About Planning Levers document.

Enable the Run integrated with CRP toggle to calculate simulated machine and labor operation loads for the simulated project supply.

Under MRP Parameters, enable the Start Site MRP process once PMRP is complete toggle to continue with an MRP simulation for the same site and Material Planning Scenario, using the same Simulation Source and planning lever. For that MRP simulation, you can also enable the Plan Alternate Component and Plan Safety Stock Receipt considering MRP Run Date toggles.

This job is posted as a background job and can be scheduled for later execution.
