Create Permit from Permit Template

Explanation

Use this activity to create a permit from an approved permit template and connect it to work tasks on a work order. Use the New from Template command from:

• The Permits tab or permit commands on the Work Task page
• The Permits command group on the Work Tasks page (for selected work tasks)
• The Work Tasks tab on the Prepare Work Order page (for selected work tasks)
• The permit commands on the work order (to create a permit connected to all work tasks on the work order)

In the New from Template dialog, select the Site and an approved Permit Template that is valid for that site. The permit description, permit type, Valid Duration Unit, Max Valid Duration, Extension Duration Unit, and Max Extension Duration are taken from the template. You can edit the permit description before confirming. The Valid From date defaults from the earliest planned start of the relevant work task or work tasks. When a maximum valid duration is defined on the template, the Valid To date is calculated automatically and cannot exceed the maximum valid duration allowed from the Valid From date.

The dialog includes Applicable In, which defaults to off so that all approved permit templates valid for the site are shown. When Applicable In is selected, the template list is limited to templates whose applicability (work type and/or object type) matches the work task or work order context. For multiple selected work tasks, a template is applicable only if it matches every selected task.

Selected work tasks must belong to the same site, and the permit site must match the work site.

Prerequisites

• A permit template must exist in the Approved status and must be valid for the selected site. This must have been performed in Permit Template.
• The work order or work task must be in a status where New from Template is enabled.

System Effects

• A permit is created in the New status.
• The permit type, description, note (if defined), maximum valid duration, maximum extension duration, and permit attributes from the template are copied to the permit.
• The permit is connected to the selected work task or work tasks, or to all work tasks on the work order when the command is started from the work order path.
• When a maximum valid duration is defined, the Valid To date is set according to the Valid From date and that duration, and cannot exceed the allowed maximum.
