Automated Intelligent Travel Profiles¶

Available to be provided for each V3 HTM is an Automated Intelligent Travel Profile (AITP) file. This file contains a travel time profile which sets accurate travel weightings for urban areas at different times of day. The travel time profile includes polygons to represent the urban areas for the region and travel time weightings for each area for 30 minutes intervals throughout the day.

With the AITP file in use, more accurate travels should be produced for urban areas, particularly at rush hour times. See the graph below for travel times at rush hour in London, comparing results from HTMs with and without the travel area weightings profile and using results calculated from TomTom data as a baseline. The results when using the travel profile are clearly more accurate than using the HTM with the default profile.
