Self Hosted BI

Introduction

This guide explains how to set up IFS Advanced Analytics and IFS Analysis Models products where the BI Infrastructure is self-hosted by the customer.

Deployment Scenarios

Depending on the IFS Deployment Model and where the customer wants to host the BI Infrastructure like SQL Server or other, there are four different scenarios supported.

IFS Analysis Model

The main product documentation for IFS Analysis Models is here.

Deployment ScenarioIFS Cloud Hosting1BI Infrastructure HostingIFS Analysis Models
Scenario 1Remote 2Customer On-PremSupported
Scenario 2Remote 2Customer Azure CloudSupported
Scenario 3Cloud 3Customer Azure CloudSupported
Scenario 6Cloud 3Customer On-PremSupported

1 Refer to IFS Cloud Deployment Models.

2 IFS Cloud production environment is hosted in a "remote" location of the customer's choosing.

3 IFS Cloud is hosted by IFS and provides Software as a Service (SaaS).

Power BI Integration

The main product documentation for Power BI Integrations is here. The main product documentation

  • For iFrame Integration is here.
  • For IFS Advanced Analytics is here.

Time Estimation for Setup

Working through this guide and setting up IFS BI takes roughly 5 hours.

Note

This should be done by someone comfortable setting up resources in Microsoft Azure.

TaskTime
1. BI Infrastructure Setup4 hrs
2. Connect to IFS Cloud30 mins
3. Environment Setup15 mins
4. Deploy Tabular Models1-3 hrs *

* Depends on the number of models and amount of data in each model.

Steps

There are four steps in this guide:

1. BI Infrastructure Setup

Follow the relevant detailed guide below to setup the BI Infrastructure.

2. Connect to IFS Cloud

After setting up the BI infrastructure, you must connect those to IFS Cloud. Follow the relevant detailed guide below based on where IFS Cloud is deployed and where the BI Infrastructure is set up.

ScenarioIFS Deployment ModelBI InfrastructureDetailed Guide
Scenario 1RemoteCustomer On-PremConnect On-Prem BI Infrastructure to IFS Cloud Remote
Scenario 2RemoteCustomer Azure CloudConnect Azure BI Infrastructure to IFS Cloud Remote
Scenario 3CloudCustomer Azure CloudConnect Azure BI Infrastructure to IFS Cloud
Scenario 6CloudCustomer On-PremConnect On-Prem BI Infrastructure to IFS Cloud

3. Environment Setup

Once the BI Infrastructure is set up and they are connected to IFS Cloud, one final configuration is needed to set up the "SQL environment" within the IFS Solution Manager.

  1. Configure Environment Parameters
  2. Run Environment Setup
  3. Security Related Information

4. Setup Tabular Models

After the environment is configured in Solution Manager, refer below guide for data loading, scheduling, and tabular model deployment.
