Mapping and Importing Process for XD Integration and Visualization

Introduction

The data mapping and importing process facilitates the 3D visualization capability from design objects, embedded into the IFS Cloud framework.

The mapping and importing process is commonly handled by the asset administrator who ensures that the data related to assets is seamlessly integrated into the IFS Cloud and the data is mapped precisely to enable visualization.

High-level Flow

The following is a high-level flow of the import and mapping process. These steps are explained in detail in the model configuration page.

  1. The user logs in to the IFS Cloud platform and selects the relevant service profile for data integration.

  2. The user creates a model entry and uploads their 3D model files.

  3. The model translation process begins. This triggers the third party services, Autodesk Platform Services(APS) to initiate the translation process, generating three different files - a viewable model file, a readable hierarchy, and a property file.

  4. Once the admin receives the readable hierarchy and property files, they choose the IFS objects that are to be imported from the model.

  5. At this point, the admin can either decide to use AI to suggest mappings, perform them manually, or use a combination of manual and AI-suggested mappings.

    a. If they decide not to use AI, they can complete the mapping process manually, making sure all the mandatory attributes are mapped as well.

    b. If they decide to enable AI suggestions, then they are provided with suggested model property mappings with IFS attributes that they can either opt to use or refrain after reviewing said suggestions.

  6. The user imports the data into IFS objects.

This mapped and imported model is now ready to be used in the visualization process where its raw data will transform into elements of an interactive tool.
