Depending on if you're going to use your installation for running the application, developing the application or running a application server on it, you need to select a corresponding Installation Type.

The Installation Type selection page in Setup.exe

Actions

  1. Choose the type of installation.

    Parameter Description
Runtime Environment This is the type of installation to run if the purpose is to setup a runtime environment and application executables on a client computer. This is the choice to use when setting up the client to run the Administrator for example.
Development Environment Not relevant in IFS Applications 9
Server Environment Some components in IFS Applications run as “servers”, IFS BI Office Apps is one example. This choice is much like the runtime environment but will only display server installation components. Choose this type when you are installing the IFS BI Office Apps and similar parts of the IFS Applications.

  2. Select if you want to make a file server installation.
    Parameter Description
Create a file server installation It’s possible for the administrator to make a file server installation with only the needed part of a distribution. Through this action, any party installing from this location will only be faced with that set of installation choices. This will decrease the possibility of manual errors.

When an end user installs from a file server installation, it’s possible to leave a large part of the files on the file server to be run from there. This is an option that reduces the used disk space on a single computer, dramatically increases the installation speed and enables to administrator to make changes to the application components without needing to reinstall all clients.

When the file server installation is finished, any other client can be installed from that location simply by executing setup from that location.
