Season Profile Graph

[To Demand Planning]

Usage

Use this window to create, view, or edit existing season profiles. It can also be used to determine if a part has a seasonal component. In the graph we display the adjusted demand for the current part or group. The demand is split into years and displayed on top of each other. This gives the user a powerful tool to determine if a parts fluctuation are random or follow seasons.

Access this window through the View/Toolbar/Select Seasonal Profile menu option. Use the Season Profile combo box in the Select Seasonal Profile toolbar to create a new profile or to select the active profile. Click New to create a new profile.

Note

Once a profile is selected, the whole GUI is set to group mode. All parts that is connected to this profile is aggregated and the profile is displayed in the Season Profile Graph and in the Season Profile Table windows. When you are looking on a part/group without a season profile then the graph is showing the system suggestion of a profile on this part/group.

Legend

The legend is a vertical bar in the right side of the window which maps a forecast type to a color. You can click a color element in the legend to hide the corresponding type in the display. The legend can be maximized or minimized by using the appropriate buttons in the upper part of the legend area: wpe14.jpg (731 bytes) and wpe15.jpg (716 bytes) respectively.

Notes button wpe13.jpg (750 bytes)

Use this button to view the following information when you point to or drag a forecast element in the graph: the season forecast name, period, and value.

Normalize Season Profile button wpe1.jpg (742 bytes)

Gauss filter (Blur) Season Profile button This takes the rough edges off the seasonal profile and makes it smoother, if you want to reset the blur operation select Reset Gauss Filter (Blur) from the Seasonal Profile menu.

After changes have been made to the season indexes, they must be normalized, i.e., recalculated so that their sum becomes equal to the number of periods in a year. A detailed description can be found in About Season Indexes.

Element Color Read/Write Description
Season profile Write This is the season profile used in the forecast models. It can be edited freely.
System profile Read-only A mathematical season profile calculated by the computer, based on the current adjusted demand found on the current part or group. This profile gives the least error on the current part or group.
Adjusted demand Read-only The demand data adjusted in order to provide the best possible basis for calculating forecasts, e.g., removing outliers (such as unusually large or small data values and non-annual campaigns), entering data in zero sales periods (due to missing data), run-out situations, strikes, etc. The demand is split into years and displayed on top of each other. This gives the user a powerful tool to determine if a parts fluctuation are random or follow seasons.

Graph adjustments

The season indexes may be altered directly in the graph by dragging the period values. If the Notes function is activated, the system presents the value of the period elements as they are dragged.  Advanced graphical adjustments are possible if you use the Ctrl and Shift buttons when dragging.

Key Name Description
- Single period Individual index values may be raised or lowered to a new value directly in the graph.
Shift Straight line Drag an index value to the the right while holding the Shift key to arrange the elements in a straight line from the initial position of the period to where it was finally dropped.
Ctrl Level Drag any period value while holding down the Ctrl key to raise or lower all periods.
