Validate Asset
Explanation
This activity is used to verify the loaded asset data before it is used to create or
update the serial structure.
When you select the Validate Asset command, the loaded data is validated.
Any errors or warnings appear in the Validation Log tab, with
details such as part number, serial number, and the reason for failure (e.g., manufacturer information provided in
the import file does not exist in the system). The overall status is set
to Validation in Progress, and the status of each part is updated to one of the
following:
- Loaded – Set when asset data is first loaded or when a part that was
previously excluded from the import is reverted.
- Warning – At least one warning exists for the part in the validation
log.
- Error – At least one error exists for the part and must be
corrected.
- Validated – All known data for the part is correct.
-
Excluded – The part has been intentionally excluded from import. (Refer to the
activity Exclude Part from Import for more information) Errors must be corrected before the serial structure
can be created or updated. Warnings indicate missing or mismatched data but do not prevent serial creation.
The Validate Asset command can be rerun until there are no errors, at
which point the overall status is set to Validation Completed. (Refer
the Correct Errors activity description for more information)
Note: Not all conditions and configuration rules can be checked at this stage, and some
issues may only be detected when the serial structure is created or updated. The purpose of Validate
Asset is to provide early guidance on the uploaded data wherever possible.
