Validate Asset
Explanation
This activity is used to verify the loaded asset data before it is used to create or update the serial
structure.
Validate Asset runs automatically after the data is successfully loaded.
Note: Not all conditions and configuration rules can be checked at this stage, and some
issues may only be detected when the serial structure is created or updated. The purpose of Validate
Asset is to provide early guidance on the uploaded data wherever possible.
Validation Log
Any errors or warnings identified during validation appear in the Validation
Log tab, with details such as part number, serial number, and the reason for failure (e.g.,
manufacturer information provided in the import file does not exist in the system).
Errors must be resolved before the serial structure can be created or updated.
Warnings indicate mismatched data or that the import will introduce changes (e.g., structure changes). They do
not prevent serial creation but require manual review before proceeding.
Import Status
When Validate Asset is run, the overall status is updated as follows:
- If one or more errors exist in the log, the status is set to Validation in
Progress.
- If there are no errors but warnings exist, the status is set to Validation Completed.
- If there are no errors or warnings, the status is set to Validation Completed, and
Process Serial Structure runs automatically. Refer to the Process Serial Structure activity description for more information.
Each part in the Import Details tab is assigned one of the following line-level
statuses:
- Loaded – Set when asset data is first loaded or when a part that was
previously excluded from the import is reverted.
- Warning – At least one warning exists for the part in the validation
log.
- Error – At least one error exists for the part and must be
corrected.
- Validated – All known data for the part is correct.
-
Excluded – The part has been intentionally excluded from import. Refer to the
activity Exclude Part from Import for more information.
Revalidation
Validate Asset can be rerun until there are no errors. Refer to the Correct Errors activity description for more information.
Prerequisites
- The asset data must be successfully loaded into the Import
Asset page.
System Effects
- Any warnings or errors are recorded in the Validation Log tab. You can
review these entries, correct any errors, and then revalidate or reload the data as needed.
- In the Import Details tab, the status of each part is
updated to reflect the validation result, and the overall status is set accordingly.
