Search and Select Part in the Inventory
Explanation
Before a part can be requested for a task or fault, the planner identifies the correct part and confirms that
suitable inventory exists. Use this activity to look up parts and inventory and select the part you need. Search is
a lookup only. It does not create a part requirement or reserve stock.
Where you search depends on what you need to confirm:
- Search the part catalog on the Aviation Parts page. Open a part to display the
Aviation Part page, which shows alternate parts, kit contents, the tasks the part is
required on, and part availability.
- Search inventory on the Rotable Inventories page to see where usable stock exists,
together with the OEM part number, serial or batch number, condition, issued status, location, owner,
configuration slot, position, and parent assembly.
- Search in the context of the work from the Task Execution tab of the Open
Task or Open and Deferred Fault page. On the Open
Task page you can also use IPC Part Search to look up a part against the IPC
document for the assembly. On the Open and Deferred Fault page you can use
Enhanced Search to search by part number or part name, restrict the results to applicable parts,
and choose a compatible alternate through Specific Part Override.
When you search from a task or fault, matching parts are listed so you can compare them and select the one to
assign. A part requirement is created only when you assign the selected part. See Assign Part to the Task.
Prerequisites
- Aviation part and part group basic data must be defined.
- To search inventory, rotable inventory records must exist.
- To search from a task, an open task must exist.
- To search from a fault, an open or deferred fault must exist.
- To use IPC Part Search, IPC documents must be uploaded for the assembly.
Procedure
Navigate to the Aviation Parts page, the Rotable Inventories
page, the Open Task page, or the Open and Deferred Fault
page.
- To search the catalog or inventory, enter search criteria on the Aviation Parts or
Rotable Inventories page and select Search.
- Open a part or inventory record to review details, alternates, availability, or configuration.
- To search from a task or fault, open the Task Execution tab and, in Part
Requirements, select Add Part Requirement.
- Enter OEM part number, part name, and/or part group, then select Search.
- Review Parts Found and select the part you need.
Info: On the Open and Deferred Fault page, select Enhanced
Search to search by part number or part name. On the Open Task page, select
IPC Part Search to look up an IPC document. If no IPC document is uploaded, a warning is
shown.
System Effects
- No part requirement or part request is created by search alone.
- The selected part remains available so you can assign it to the task or fault.
