Update Fault Description

Explanation

Maintenance operations controllers and line technicians update the fault description when the reported text needs to be corrected or completed before the proposed corrective action is recorded. This activity is optional. Skip it if the description is already accurate.

In Line Maintenance Execution, update the description by selecting Edit Fault on the Fault Details page. The Edit Fault dialog opens with two sections: Fault Registration and Fault Details. Enter or change the text in Description under Fault Registration. You must be online. If a corresponding task exists, you can also open Edit Fault from the Task Details page. See Raise Fault.

The Aircraft field is displayed and cannot be changed. You can update other fields in the same dialog if required, including Name, Failed System, Fault Severity, Logbook Reference, Logbook Type, Fault Source, Found on, Found By, Phase of Flight, Fault Code, Failure Type, Priority, Flight Safety Impact, and ETOPS Significant. If you change the Failure Type, the measurement type also changes. See Raise Fault.

Updating the fault description does not record the work that was performed. To record the corrective action taken, see Record Work. If execution steps need to be revised after the description is updated, see Add Steps.
