Default functional department types
By default, Maintenix includes several department types that are used to carry out specific functions in Maintenix.

| Crew | CREW | Crew departments are are used to assign work packages and tasks to a group of people rather than to one specific person. Members of a crew can view and take on the work assigned to the group. |
| Maintenance | MAINT | The maintenance department groups technicians who perform maintenance. You can have several maintenance departments representing the line, heavy, and shop maintenance departments. Users who carry out maintenance activities must belong to a maintenance department in order to be assigned maintenance tasks. |
| Engineering | ENG | The engineering department represents system engineers who support maintenance technicians. Similar to a crew department, members or the engineering department can view work assigned to the group. |
| Supply | SUPPLY | Supply departments represent those who supply parts to maintenance personnel. Only the members of a supply department can view and work on purchase orders, transfers, and shipments for the locations associated with the supply department. You should create a supply department for each supply location in your Maintenix system. |
