Supply location
Locations can be designated as supply locations. When you designate a location as a supply location, the location and its sub-locations are defined as local in relation to each other.
Supply locations are typically either airports or companies. The inventory
within the supply location and its sub-locations is displayed on various tabs, such as
To Be Shelved, Inbound Shipments, Turn In, Availability and more.
Note: The inventory that users can see in To-Do List tabs is
filtered according to the organizations and departments to which users belong, and
the authority assigned to them and to the inventory. For example, when reserving
remote inventory manually, material controllers can only see inventory in
organizations that they belong to.
Location hierarchy and supply locations
- In the location hierarchy you cannot have a supply location under another supply location.
- Some location hierarchies are modeled with the airport as the supply location. Others are modeled with one or more companies under an airport. If the airport is marked as the supply location, then all locations under it in the hierarchy are local to each other. If your model uses companies, the companies are designated as supply locations and the locations under one company are local to each other. You cannot designate both a company and its parent airport as supply locations.
- To schedule maintenance work at a location, the maintenance location must be
located under a supply location in the location hierarchy. There must be a
valid work location also for activities, such as recording oil uptake, where
Maintenix runs a
background process to package a task into an existing or new work package
and complete the task or the work package. Maintenix creates the task or work package at a work
sub-location (such as LINE or TRACK) in the supply location where the
aircraft is located. If the airport is not a supply location and if there
are multiple companies designated as supply locations at the airport where
the aircraft is located, then Maintenix attempts to match the organizations that are
associated with the company and with the aircraft operator to find the most
suitable COMPANY supply location (and work sub-location) under which to
create the work package. In a multiple-company scenario, Maintenix uses the following
logic to determine where to create the work package:
- Looks first for a COMPANY location that has a single operator organization that matches the aircraft's organization.
- Looks next for the last created COMPANY location that has an operator organization that matches the aircraft's organization.
- Looks last for any COMPANY location that has an organization, even if the organization doesn't match the aircraft's organization.
- Vendor locations that you create are automatically designated as supply locations.
Auto-reservation
- Auto-reservation reserves inventory within the supply location that generates the part request.
- If a supplier location is designated for the supply location, auto-reservation can reserve inventory or be prevented from reserving inventory from the remote supplier location.
- Within a supply location, you can prevent auto-reservation from reserving inventory from specified sub-locations.
- For maintenance locations, you can specify preferred materials locations within the supply location. If a supply location has preferred materials locations, you cannot delete the supply location or unmark it as a supply location unless you first remove the preferred materials locations.
Stock levels
- Stock levels can be set for supply locations and also for warehouse locations that are serviceable stores.
Inventory movement
- When you move inventory between sub-locations within the same supply location, you transfer it.
- When you move inventory between supply locations, you ship it.
Time zones
- Time zones can only be set on supply locations and all supply locations must be associated with a time zone.
- All sub-locations inherit the time zone of their parent supply location.
- Although you can see the time zone of any location, you can only edit the time if the location is a supply location.
