Applying standard patches as well as customizations or adding a new component to your system are tasks done through deliveries. A delivery is a set of assembled/compiled files deployed into the system using the IFS Applications installer. A delivery is typically prepared using IFS Solution Developer (ISD), but it is also possible to prepare a delivery manually (though it requires deeper knowledge of the IFS Applications build, compile, deliver and deploy process). IFS Configuration Builder can be used to set up the delivery structure, but still you need to perform some manual steps to finalize the delivery before deployment.
