IFS Business Reporter Client Translation

This page describes how to manage translation related to the IFS Business Reporter client.

Translatable Attributes

IFS Business Reporter client cannot be automatically scanned with respect to translatable attributes as is the case for e.g. APF forms. But there is a possibility to make this semi-automatic. For support work it will be necessary to handle this work manually though,

The following approach can be used if an automated transaltion process is used:

  1. When new translatable attributes/texts has been added in the client code, the programmer must use a specific option in IFS Developer Studio to generate the necessary resource files and place them in the folder \source\bacli\client\Assemblies and check them in.
  2. During a development project there will be an automated process that takes care of the translations. For more info see IFS Translation Manager related documentation. However, when handling support of IFS Business Reporter there will probably not be any automated process so the resource filed will have to be manually imported into the Translation Manager.

If the automated translation process is not used, e.g. when correcting client bugs, a manual approcah has to be followed.

  1. Start by importing the existing language file for the BACLI component, i.e. bacli.lng
  2. The relevent IFS Business Reporter resource files have to be imported into the translation framework via the Translation Manager.
  3. Use the feature Scan Translatable Code
  4. Click on Manage Scan List...
  5. Select the resource file by clicking on Add Files
  6. Browse to the file and choose file type Translation Paths
  7. Scanned attributes does not have to be connected to terms
  8. After scanning, use the Text Translations form in Translation Manager to make sure that the scanning went well
  9. Next step is to export the LNG (language) file for the BACLI component and define it in the code handling system. The file is named bacli.lng. The export is also performed in the Translation Manager

Translation of Attributes

IFS Business Reporter specific attributes are in core projects handled by a translation agency. For other cases the following approache can be used:

  1. Import the LNG file (bacli.lng) by using the Translation Manager
  2. Use the Text Translations form to perform translations
  3. Export the translation files via the Translation Manager
  4. Commit the files in the code handling system (SVN)

Note: More detailed information about translation specific issues can be found in IFS Translation Manager related documentation.

Language Selection at IFS Business Reporter Login

When logging into IFS Business Reporter the user needs to provide the required username and the password and also the connection string to the IFS applications target instance. The user can also select the required language at the time of the login, by selecting a language listed under the Language field in the Login dialog. This makes the IFS Business Reporter client independent of the Excel display language.

It is possible to have the IFS Business Reporter client (Ribbon, Action Pane and report data) in one language and Excel in a different language. For example, Excel menu items can be displayed in Swedish and the IFS Business Reporter client and report data displayed in English. The recommended usage is to have the same language in both. However, the choice of languages to use is entirely up to the user.

Figure 1:Different language codes are listed under the Language field in the Login dialog.

After changing the language, next time when you log in to IFS Business Reporter, the controls will be displayed in the active language (provided that there are translations available).
