External Report Integration - Development Guidelines

In Business Intelligence in general, reporting is the key to successful use of data to improve competitiveness. Reporting helps to analyze information and find quick answers to the questions that drive decision making and daily operations.

Within IFS Enterprise Explorer, you can connect to a business intelligence reporting tool offered by the Microsoft Corporation. The tool is Microsoft Report Builder that comes with SQL Server and targets business users for their many reporting needs including ad hoc reporting. Within Business Reporting & Analysis the External Report Integration framework supports integration with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). The presented development guidelines are dedicated to SSRS reports.

Microsoft Report Builder tool can be started by clicking Report Builder in Business Reporting & Analysis/My Reports page in IFS Enterprise Explorer. Features of that tool such as wizards, report part gallery and shared data sources can be used to create reports to suit your needs. Microsoft Report Builder contains a number of visualization features including gauges, indicators, maps, spark lines and data bars which are helpful in developing readable reports with good presentation. The tool also offers drill-through, sub-report features and other actions on report items which enable an interactive reporting experience for its users. The reports created with Microsoft Report Builder can be viewed, managed and published via IFS Enterprise Explorer.
