Analyzing Impact

When upgrading to a new UPD (Update) version, the CORE layer code cannot be merely replaced. Consideration has to be taken on how the UPD will affect the code in the CUST and EXT layers, but also configurations done in IFS Applications. IFS Update Analyzer is used to identify the changes that need to be performed on the CUST and EXT layers and on any configurations in order to upgrade to a new UPD.

The input for the analyze is a set of folders. You must point out where the files for your existing solution is based upon, and which update version you are targeting at. These folders is very often the R&D archive but you can have them locally as well. Furthermore, you need to tell where all you customized code is stored - at disk or in Harvest. Optionally, you can also include a set of configurations, which is extracted from IFS Applications, in the analyze.

All customized code and the extracted configurations are scanned and analyzed in order to identify where actions need to be taken before the upgrade. The approach when analyzing is done from two different angles, either to search for layer impacts or interface impacts.
