Assign and Edit Labor and Skills
Explanation
Maintenance operations controllers and line supervisors record labor requirements and assign people after
analyzing a fault, or when planning work for an aircraft turn. A labor requirement is the Required
Skill, the Assignment Role on a task, the Scheduled Hours or
Duration (HH:MM), and optionally the person in Assigned To.
Assign labor and skills is the first recording. Select + to add a skill and, if known, assign a
person. Edit labor and skills is optional. Use it only if the skill, role, hours, or person must change. You must
be online.
Use the following pages in Line Maintenance Execution:
- On the Task Details page, use the ASSIGNMENTS tab. The list shows
Required Skills, Assignment Role, Assigned To,
Assignment Status, and scheduled and actual hours. You can open Task Details
from Line Maintenance Work Package Execution.
- On the Turn Work Assignments page, use the Work Assignments list. The list
shows Required Skill, Duration (HH:MM), Assigned To,
Start Time, and End Time. If no skills exist, the turn work assignment status
is No Required Skills.
You can add a skill requirement without assigning a person. To add only the skill and duration on a turn, see
Add Skill Requirement. To assign technicians using the Gantt chart or the
Assignments assistant, see Assign Technicians to
Tasks and Assign Technicians to Turns. Technicians can also
assign a skill requirement to themselves. See Self Assign Skill
Requirements.
When you raise a fault from the Aircraft Turn Details page, you can also add labor requirements
and scheduled hours. See Raise Fault.
You cannot assign the inspector role to a user who is already assigned as the executor or certifier within the
same skill group. You cannot remove an assignment that has been started. A supervisor can remove only skill
requirements that were added from the maintenance execution applications.
Prerequisites
- You must be online.
- To assign or edit labor on a task, the status of the task must be Active or In
Work.
- To assign or edit labor on a fault, the status of the fault must be Open or
Deferred.
- To assign or edit labor on a turn, the status of the aircraft turn must be Inbound,
Arrived, or In Maintenance. See Review
Aircraft Turn.
- The technician must not already have an assignment with the same skill and role on the task.
- Optionally, define default skills for the aircraft type and work type on the Default Turn Resource
Requirements page so that the required skill list appears by default on a turn. See Define Default Turn Resource Requirements.
- You can edit or remove a skill only if the task has not been completed, the fault has not been closed, and
the assignment has not started.
Procedure
You must be online to perform these procedures.
Assign or edit labor and skills on a task
- Open the Task Details page. You can open it from the Line Maintenance Work Package
Execution page. Path: Aviation Maintenance > Line Maintenance > Line Maintenance Execution >
Mobile Maintenance > Line Maintenance Work Package Execution > Task Details.
- Select the ASSIGNMENTS tab.
- To assign labor and skills, select +. Set the Required Skills, the
Assignment Role (for example Executor), and the Scheduled
Hours. If a person is known, set Assigned To.
- Save the record. Repeat for further skills or roles if required.
- To edit labor and skills, select an existing row and change the skill, role, hours, or Assigned
To. Save the record. Do not remove a row that has already been started.
Assign or edit labor and skills on a turn
- Open the Turn Work Assignments page. You can open it from:
- Aviation Maintenance > Line Maintenance > Line Maintenance Execution > Mobile Maintenance >
Work Management > Turn Work Assignments
- The Station Turns page, by navigating to work assignments for a turn
- The Aircraft Turn Details page
- Review the aircraft turn details for the selected turn, including aircraft, airport, arrival and departure
times, work package, work type, and maintenance location.
- To assign labor and skills, select + in the Work Assignments list. Default
skill rows may already be displayed from the Default Turn Resource Requirements page. Set the
Required Skill and the Duration (HH:MM). If a person is known, set
Assigned To. Start Time and End Time are set when you assign a
technician.
- Save the record. Repeat for further skills if required.
- To edit labor and skills, change the skill, duration, or Assigned To on an existing row, or
remove a skill that has not been assigned to a technician. Save the record.
To assign technicians from the Resources Gantt chart or the Assignments
assistant, see Assign Technicians to Tasks and Assign Technicians to Turns.
System Effects
- On a task, the assignment is displayed on the ASSIGNMENTS tab of the Task
Details page, with the required skill, assignment role, assigned person, assignment status, and
scheduled hours. If the skill is added to a task that is a packaged fault, it can be viewed from both the
Task Skills and Fault Skills pages.
- A summary of the scheduled hours for each skill and a breakdown by assignment role can be viewed from the
Labor Summary tab on the Task Details page.
- On a turn, the skill requirement is displayed in the Work Assignments list on the
Turn Work Assignments page, with the Required Skill and Duration
(HH:MM). If a person is assigned, Assigned To, Start Time, and
End Time are also displayed. The turn work assignment status is no longer No Required
Skills.
- If a person is assigned to a task, the technician can view the assignment on the My Work
page. If a person is assigned to a turn, the technician can view the turn on the My Aircraft
Turns page by selecting Turns Assigned to Me.
- If specified, skill requirements, assignments, and scheduled hours for the executor role are synchronized to
CAMO.
- The fault status and task status do not change.
