Specify task dependencies

Make adjustments to a template or production plan by creating dependencies between tasks and other activities.

  1. Select the task.
Tip: To find a task, you can set a filter, by clicking Set/Reset Filter on the toolbar, or you can press Ctrl+F and type the complete or partial name or barcode of the task.
  2. Right-click the task and select Edit .
  3. On the Task Properties dialog box, click the Dependencies tab.
  4. To create a dependency, do one of the following:
    • If the selected task is the dependent in the dependency, click Add in the Previous Activity (From) section.
    • If the selected task is the prerequisite in the dependency, click Add in the Following Activity (To) section.
  5. On the Create Dependency dialog box, provide the information requested, and click OK:
    • Activity: Select whether you want to create a dependency to another task, to a phase, or to a milestone.
    • Depending on the choice you made in the Activity box, the second list box is called Task, Phase, or Milestone. In this box, choose the correct activity.
Tip: When creating a dependency to a task, you can enter the full or partial barcode, task name, or external key into the Task box to find matching tasks.
    • Dependency: Select one of the following:
      • START-START when the prerequisite activity must be started, but not necessarily completed, before the dependent activity can start.
      • END-START when the prerequisite activity must be completed before the dependent activity can start.
