Set up capacity patterns for a location

Capacity patterns are used to determine the maintenance capacity of a location. Over time, a location's capacity may increase if a hangar expansion is planned, or decrease in the case of hangar repairs or statutory holidays.

A location's capacity is determined by recording the amount of work that can be performed during a set period of time, measured in manhours.

Daily capacity patterns specify one day's worth of available manpower. You can assign a pattern to a specific calendar day in LRP, to define a location's capacity for that day.

Weekly capacity patterns specify the available manpower for each day of one week (Monday to Sunday). Weekly capacity patterns are not specific to any calendar dates, but you can assign them to a range of dates to plan manpower needs for that period.

In LRP, work package duration is calculated using the default duration set on a block or requirement. Alternately, you can use location capacity to calculate work package duration. If location capacity is selected, you must provide additional capacity information for the location on the Capacity tab.

  1. In LRP, click Setup > Locations.
  2. On the Location List page, double-click a location row.
  3. On the Location Details page > Details tab > Duration / Capacity Configuration area, select one of the following:
    • Use Default Task Durations: This option uses the default durations set on the block or requirement to determine the work package duration for the location.
    • Use Location Capacity: This option enables the Capacity tab and uses the provided capacity information to calculate the work package duration for the location.
  4. Click Apply.
  5. On the Location Details page, Capacity tab, do the following:
    • Enter the default capacity for the location.
    • In the Not in Use column, select the capacity patterns you want to include for your location.
    • Click the left arrow to move the capacity patterns into the In Use column.
    • In the In Use column, select the capacity patterns you want to exclude from your location.
    • Click the right arrow to move the capacity patterns into the Not In Use column.
  6. In the Standard Patterns area, click the plus sign to add a pattern row, and do the following:
    • Select a pattern from the Name drop-down list.
    • Set the applicability range by providing dates in the Effective From and Effective To fields. The default effective to date is indefinite.
    • Remove any standard patterns you do not want for your location by clicking the standard pattern row and then the minus sign .
  7. In the Pattern Exceptions area, click the plus sign to add a pattern exception row, and do the following:
    • Select a pattern from the Name drop-down list.
    • Set the applicability range by providing dates in the Effective From and Effective To fields. The default effective to date is indefinite.
    • Select the Recurring check box to indicate that the exception repeats.
    • Remove any pattern exception you do not want for your location by clicking the row and then the minus sign .
Note: You can assign daily capacity patterns to exception patterns, but they cannot overlap. If you attempt to add an overlapping pattern, you are given a warning and cannot proceed. The only time LRP allows two overlapping exception patterns is if one exception pattern is recurring, and the other is not. In this situation, LRP ignores the recurring pattern, and applies the non-recurring pattern to the specified date and year.
  8. Click OK.
