Stock numbers

Stock numbers are used for materials management.

A stock number is a number defined by your organization and used internally to refer to a part and its alternate parts. Stock numbers are unique within the organization that defines them. Official documents and records, however, require the actual part numbers defined by the part manufacturers. When displaying and storing information, Maintenix uses the stock number or the part number as required.

A stock number can be associated with more than one part number. For example, you can use one stock number for all valves, even if those valves have different part numbers and are from different manufacturers. This allows you to fill a stock requirement with valves from a variety of manufacturers. A part number cannot be associated with more than one stock number.

For supply locations, you can click a button so that Maintenix calculates the value of most stock number attributes, including monthly demand, cost information, and order information. If you manually override the value of an attribute that Maintenix has calculated, Maintenix does not recalculate or update this value when changes are made.

You can manage stock numbers from the Stock Details page or from the Location Details page. You can check stock levels, create and issue purchase orders automatically, view stock lows and stock requests, and specify the number of specific inventory items that should be kept at each supply and warehouse location.
