Routing ship-or-shelf inventory

You can use Ship-or-Shelf (SOS) procedures, sometimes called Preserve all Serviceable Spares (PASS) procedures, to handle components removed from an aircraft as the suspected cause of a fault.

If the fault is corrected after removal, the component was likely the cause, and you can send it to be repaired. If the fault reappears, the component was not the cause, and you can return it to the inventory stores as serviceable.

After a possibly faulty component is removed from an aircraft, you can:
  • Move it to quarantine.
  • If the component is found to be the cause of the fault, mark it as repair required (unserviceable), and create a work package for the repair.
  • If the component is found to not be the cause of the fault, mark the fault as no fault found, cancel the fault, and mark the component as serviceable. You can tell that a part is ship-or-shelf if the Ship or Shelf check box is selected on the Part Details page, Details tab, Details area.
Note: You can identify whether a part is ship-or-shelf if the Ship or Shelf check box is selected on the Part Details page, Details tab, Details area.
