Warranties

You can manage warranties offered by a vendor to replace or repair a malfunctioning item, through warranty contracts for assemblies, components and tasks.

When a new component or service is purchased, it may come with a warranty. A warranty contract can be created as a template to record the details, terms and conditions of the actual warranty.

Warranty contracts can apply to any combination of parts, labor, and routine tasks. You can create assembly, component, and task warranty contracts:

• An assembly warranty contract is defined by its relationship to a specific aircraft, engine, or APU.
• A component warranty contract is defined by its relationship to a specific purchased component.
• A task warranty contract is defined by its relationship to a specific maintenance task.

Once the warranty contract has been created, you can add terms and conditions and various details, such as applicable parts or task definitions, and authorized vendors and internal repair locations, if any, depending on the suitability. Once finalized, the warranty contract should be activated prior to assigning it to an inventory or a task. Once the contract has been activated, it can be automatically or manually initialized, to associate the contract with an inventory item or task.

You can also assign warranties to not-yet-received inventory when you create purchase, repair, or exchange orders. The assigned warranty is initialized when the inventory is received and inspected.

After an inventory item is removed from an aircraft, or a task in a work package is completed, and the warranty for the item has been initialized, Maintenix either automatically evaluates warranties on the items or tasks, or you can evaluate them manually.

When the warranty period is over, the warranty will automatically expire. You can also manually set a warranty to expired, if required.

You can manually deactivate warranty contracts that have expired. Deactivated warranty contracts cannot be edited or reactivated, and cannot be initialized against inventory or tasks.
