Demote serial-controlled parts to batch-controlled

You can change the inventory class of a part number from serial-controlled to batch-controlled to track items as a batch with a quantity.

You cannot change a serial-controlled part to a batch-controlled part if any of the following is true:

  • There are other parts in the part group containing the serial-controlled part.
  • The serial-controlled part has the financial type of rotable or repairable.
  • There are open borrow orders against the serial-controlled part.
Note: If the serial-controlled part is not repairable, you will be asked to pick a new standard unit of measure. The standard unit of measure for repairable parts is EA (each).
  1. On the Part Search page, provide search criteria, and click Search.
  2. Select the OEM Part No. link to the part.
  3. On the Part Details page, click Change to Batch.
  4. If you want to change the standard unit of measure, in the Change to Batch page, pick a new standard unit of measure for the part from the drop-down list.
  5. Click OK.
When you change a serial-controlled part to a batch-controlled part, Maintenix does the following:
  • Changes the inventory class of the part number, the associated stock number if any, and the part group.
  • For every inventory item for that part number:

    • Changes the inventory class on any inventory record for the part.

    • Assigns a unique batch number.

  • If the inventory item is issued, but not yet installed, sets the batch quantity to zero.

  • If the inventory item is installed, removes and archives the inventory.

  • If the inventory item is not installed and id not issued, sets the batch quantity to one.

  • Deletes the current usage on the inventory records.

  • Cancels the reservations that exist for the part.

  • Runs the auto-reservation feature to fulfill requests for the part.

The default conversion factor when a serial-controlled part with a standard unit of measure of EA is converted to a batch-controlled part is 1.0.

If you picked a new standard unit of measure in the Change to Batch page, Maintenix:

  • Changes the standard unit of measure for the part number and its part group to the new standard unit of measure.

  • Changes the standard unit of measure for all non-historical ad hoc and task part requests associated with the part and its part group.

  • Changes the standard unit of measure for all non-historical shipments associated with the part.

  • If the part number has an associated stock number:

    • Changes the standard unit of measure for the stock number.

    • Changes the standard unit of measure for all non-historical stock requests and consignment stock requests associated with the stock number.

  • For every inventory item for that part number:
    • Changes the standard unit of measure for the inventory record.

    • Changes the standard unit of measure for all non-historical transfers associated with the inventory.

  • Adds the standard unit of measure for the serial-controlled part as an alternate purchasing unit of measure for the batch part.

Note: When a serial-controlled part is demoted to a batch-controlled part, existing inventory records in Maintenix will not be joined together. Existing inventory will continue to be recorded as individual inventory items with their own batch numbers and barcodes.
When Maintenix has completed all of its steps, you must adjust the details of the part number, such as the financial class, unit price, and scrap rate.
