Work on deferred faults opportunistically

  • The unplanned fault has the status of Open or Defer.

As you work on an asset, be it an aircraft waiting at the gate or a component in the shop, you might see an opportunity to address a fault that exists for the asset but that was not planned for the current or upcoming maintenance—deferred faults, or open faults that are not assigned to a work package. For example, you might have the parts required for the unplanned work on hand, and the planned work might be completed earlier than anticipated.

In this situation, you can assign the unplanned fault to the work package that you are working on (or will work on shortly), package the fault in its own active work package that you will complete when the fault is addressed, or, in the case where you already did the work to address the fault, package and complete the fault in a single operation.

  1. Click the Fault Search menu item.
  2. On the Fault Search page, enter your search criteria to find the fault and click Search.
Tip: To find deferred and unassigned faults for a specific aircraft, you can select the aircraft by clicking next to Aircraft, and selecting Unassigned Faults Only in the Work Package Information area.
  3. In the Faults Found list, click the check box beside the required fault.
  4. To add the fault to an existing work package, do the following:
    • Click Assign Fault to Work Package.
    • On the Assign Task to Work Package page select the work package to which you want to assign the fault. The page lists in work, committed, active, and forecasted work packages for the inventory of the fault.
  5. To include the fault in a new active work package, do the following:
    • Click Create Work Package for Fault.
    • On the Create Work Package page, provide the information requested and click OK.
  6. If you have already completed the work for the fault, do the following:
    • Click Package and Complete Fault.
    • On the Complete Fault page, provide the information requested, and click OK.
    • If prompted, enter your password and click OK.
