Cycle counting

A cycle count is a scheduled inventory count based on a part's ABC classification.

To ensure that the physical count matches the inventory records in Maintenix, you can use a mobile scanning device to record a cycle count for inventory stored in bins at regular intervals. Cycle counting is important to ensure that parts are available when needed for maintenance.

Scheduling the count

When part numbers are created, an ABC classification is selected. The ABC classification (or ABC class) determines how often inventory with that part number is counted.

When you create a new bin level to track the quantity of inventory at a bin location or when you create inventory for a part number at a bin location, the count for that bin is unscheduled and has the current date as the count due date. After you perform an initial count, the last count date is recorded and the next count date is scheduled based on the interval of the part's ABC classification.

Note: Each part number stored in a bin location has its own next count date. However, the list of bins on the Cycle Count tab is ordered based on the earliest Next Count Date for the part numbers at the bin location.

You can also manually schedule the Next Count Date from the Bin Levels tab. This allows you to manage the cycle count schedule and make adjustments as required.

Scheduled (and unscheduled) cycle counts are listed on the Cycle Count tab with the bin location code, the part number, the manufacturer, and the unit of measure. By default, the Cycle Count tab shows cycle counts that are due for the current date.

A cycle count is overdue if the next count date is before the current date for at least one part number stored the bin location. The bin location code appears red for cycle counts that are overdue.

Submitting the count

If a there is a discrepancy between the physical count and the record in Maintenix, the count results are listed on the Cycle Count Discrepancies tab.
