Shift patterns

A shift is the period of time that a person spends at work. A shift has a defined start time and a duration. The net hours worked in a shift may be less than the shift duration, if breaks are allowed.

A user shift pattern consists of several shifts that cover a specified time period, often a week. You can define several standard shifts and use them to build a shift pattern. You then assign the shift patterns to technicians and crews to build their work schedule. You can also specify various types of time off using the shift pattern for the user.

The assigned shift patterns make up the user or crew's schedule, which includes shifts and any shift adjustments and time off specified.
