Exchanging unserviceable components
You can exchange unserviceable components by creating an exchange order or by converting a repair order line to an exchange order line.
You​ can exchange unserviceable parts for serviceable parts in several ways. If a repair vendor cannot repair a part, but can exchange it for a different serviceable item, you can convert the order line for the part's inventory item on the repair order to an exchange order line. The inventory on the exchange order line will be listed as an inventory return.
The outbound shipment will contain inventory to be exchanged and may contain inventory to be repaired, if repair order lines exist on the repair order as well. The inbound shipment will contain the new inventory received and the inventory will be listed as received inventory on the repair order.
Alternatively, you might decide to exchange an unserviceable part before sending it to a repair vendor. You can do this by creating an exchange order. This is often done when you have an exchange relationship with a vendor.
