Self Hosted BI¶
Introduction¶
This guide explains how to set up IFS Advanced Analytics and IFS Analysis Models products where the BI Infrastructure is self-hosted by the customer.
Deployment Scenarios¶
Depending on the IFS Deployment Model and where the customer wants to host the BI Infrastructure like SQL Server or other, there are four different scenarios supported.
IFS Analysis Model¶
The main product documentation for IFS Analysis Models is here.
Deployment Scenario | IFS Cloud Hosting | BI Infrastructure Hosting | IFS Analysis Models |
---|---|---|---|
Scenario 1 | Remote 1 | Customer On-Prem | Supported |
Scenario 2 | Remote 1 | Customer Azure Cloud | Supported |
Scenario 3 | Cloud 2 | Customer Azure Cloud | Supported |
Scenario 6 | Cloud 2 | Customer On-Prem | Supported |
1 IFS Cloud production environment is hosted in a "remote" location of customer's choosing.
2 IFS Cloud is hosted by IFS and provided Software as a Service (SaaS).
Power BI Integration¶
The main product documentation for Power BI Integrations is here.
Deployment Scenario | IFS Cloud Hosting | BI Infrastructure Hosting | Power BI Integration |
---|---|---|---|
Scenario 1 | Remote | Customer On-Prem | iFrame Integration |
Scenario 2 | Remote | Customer Azure Cloud | IFS Advanced Analytics (Power BI Embedded) |
Scenario 3 | Cloud | Customer Azure Cloud | IFS Advanced Analytics (Power BI Embedded) |
Scenario 6 | Cloud | Customer On-Prem | iFrame Integration |
Time Estimation for Setup¶
Working through this guide and setting up IFS BI takes roughly 5 hours.
Note
This should be done by someone comfortable setting up resources in Microsoft Azure.
Task | Time |
---|---|
1. BI Infrastructure Setup | 4 hrs |
2. Connect to IFS Cloud | 30 mins |
3. Environment Setup | 15 mins |
4. Deploy Tabular Models | 1-3 hrs * |
* Depends on the number of models and amount of data in each model.
Steps¶
There are four steps in this guide:
1. BI Infrastructure Setup¶
Follow the relevant detailed guide below to setup the BI Infrastructure.
IFS Analysis Models
- For Scenario 2 & 3: IFS Analysis Models - Infrastructure setup for Azure
- For Scenario 1 & 6: IFS Analysis Models - Infrastructure setup for On-Prem
IFS Advanced Analytics (Power BI integration)
- For Scenario 2 & 3: Advanced Analytics - Infrastructure setup for Azure
2. Connect to IFS Cloud¶
After setting up the BI infrastructure, you must connect those to IFS Cloud. Follow the relevant detailed guide below based on where IFS Cloud is deployed and where the BI Infrastructure is set up.
Scenario | IFS Deployment Model | BI Infrastructure | Detailed Guide |
---|---|---|---|
Scenario 1 | Remote | Customer On-Prem | Connect On-Prem BI Infrastructure to IFS Cloud Remote |
Scenario 2 | Remote | Customer Azure Cloud | Connect Azure BI Infrastructure to IFS Cloud Remote |
Scenario 3 | Cloud | Customer Azure Cloud | Connect Azure BI Infrastructure to IFS Cloud |
Scenario 6 | Cloud | Customer On-Prem | Connect On-Prem BI Infrastructure to IFS Cloud |
3. Environment Setup¶
Once the BI Infrastructure is set up and they are connected to IFS Cloud, one final configuration is needed to set up the "SQL environment" within the IFS Solution Manager.
4. Setup Tabular Models¶
After the environment is configured in Solution Manager, refer below guide for data loading, scheduling, and tabular model deployment.
