Create what-if scenarios

In LRP you can create what-if scenarios to see the impact of planning for events such as hangar track renovations, the introduction of a night shift, adding future aircraft to the fleet, or fleet retirement. You can then compare what-if scenarios to determine the best time to accommodate these changes.

The recommended work flow for creating what-if scenarios is as follows:

  1. Duplicate an existing long range plan.
  2. Do any of the following to best represent your ideal scenario:
    • Add future aircraft to your fleet.
    • Remove aircraft from the fleet.
    • Adjust the forecast model for your fleet
    • Set up ad hoc location and aircraft work packages.
    • Modify location capacity. See Applying capacity patterns for a location.
  3. Run automation to schedule the changes to the plan. This may require some manual rescheduling of work packages. See Scheduling work packages in the long range plan.
  4. Save the what-if scenario.
  5. Compare your what-if scenario against your original plan.

To create a what-if scenario, you save a copy of an existing long range plan, and modify the copy as desired. Creating a copy of the original plan keeps you from writing over and losing information in the original.

  1. With a plane open in LRP, click File > Save As.
  2. Give your plan a name, and click OK.
  3. Modify the plan to evaluate the impacts of your what-if scenario.
