Merging work packages (workflow)

When two planners manage the same fleet, but each planner manages a different block chain, at some point they need to merge their work packages. For example, Planner 1 manages A-checks, and Planner 2 manages C-checks. Planner 1 included C-checks in his plan as Read-Only. Planner 2 included A-checks in her plan as Read-Only. Planner 1 wants to merge an A-check with a planned C-check, as the forecasted due dates overlap.

You must have control of both block types to merge or add a task to another planner's work package. You must have control of all assigned tasks and blocks to publish or reschedule work packages.

  1. Planner 2 publishes a plan.
  2. In the Block Details of the A-check, Planner 2 clears the Read Only check box.
  3. In the Gantt, Planner 2 double-clicks the work package to be modified.
  4. On the Work Package Details page, Workscope tab, Planner 2 adds the A-check to the scope of the work package.
  5. Planner 2 updates the scheduled location of the work package, and clicks OK.
  6. Planner 2 publishes the plan.
  7. In the Block Details of the A-check, Planner 2 clears the Read Only check box.
  8. Planner 1 updates to actuals. Result: The merged work package is loaded into the plan.
