Oracle 19c Enterprise Edition - Important Installation Considerations

Oracle 19c Enterprise Edition enables both functionality that are included in the Oracle Database ASFU license and functionality that require additional Oracle licenses.

When installing Oracle 19c Database, it is important to be aware of what functionality that are installed. The IFS Cloud DBCA template is just a template and cannot be considered as a specification of what is included in the Oracle Database ASFU license. The DBCA templates delivered by IFS disable some Enterprise Edition options, handled by database initialization parameters, which require additional licenses. These options and initialization parameters are the following:

  • In Memory
    inmemory_query = DISABLE
  • Diagnostics and Tuning pack
    control_management_pack_access = NONE

If you have license for these options, initialization parameters must be set to the correct (default) values.

Note that it is not possible to remove all options by changing the initialization parameters with the DBCA template. Some of the options are only possible to remove by using the Oracle chopt tool. On windows this tool renames some “.dll” files so that when starting Oracle these options aren’t available to use. On Unix you must relink the Oracle kernel after using the chopt tool.

The following options can be removed by the chopt tool in Oracle 19c:

  • oaa Oracle Advanced Analytics
  • olap Oracle OLAP
  • partitioning Oracle Partitioning
  • rat Oracle Real Application Testing

Some options are not possible to remove at all, so you must make sure not to use these options at the customer site. The following options are not possible to remove:

  • Real Application Cluster
  • Real Application Cluster One Node
  • Advanced Analytics
  • Multitenant
  • Advanced Security
  • Advanced Compression
