Technical changes related to IFS Cloud¶
This section contains information regarding technical changes for IFS Cloud related to component, entity and database changes as well as some other useful technical information.
Note: IFS Cloud only supports direct upgrades from IFS Applications 10. Upgrades from IFS Applications 8 must be done in two steps. (The two-step upgrade path is planned for IFS Applications 9 in a future release). IFS Cloud also supports upgrades from Global Extension versions 9 and 10. Please refer to the Upgrade from Extensions section for more information.
Important Installation Project Information¶
This section describes important information that the installation project should be aware of before the installation starts. It is recommended to follow the links in order to get more information regarding each specific issue.
Software Requirements¶
Make sure you only use software certificated by the Product Certification team. Certified Oracle version, Client Operations Systems etc can be found on the Supported Platforms (IFS internal) pages.
Hardware Requirements¶
Depending on products to be installed, existing data volumes and number of licensed users, it is important size the hardware correctly. Read more on the Benchmarking pages (IFS internal), where sizing guides and other useful information is provided.
Functional News¶
Regarding functional news and other useful information, please refer to the Product Release Notes in each Product.
Handling of Invalid Objects¶
How to handle invalid database objects after upgrade or patching.
Upgrading IFS Cloud and Oracle¶
Upgrade from | Upgrade to |
---|---|
Version | Certified Oracle version(s) |
--- | --- |
IFS Applications 8 | 11.2.0.x |
12.1.0.1 | |
12.1.0.2 | |
IFS Applications 9 | 12.1.0.2 |
12.2.0.1 | |
19c | |
IFS Applications 10 | 12.2.0.1 |
19c |
Note: If you are running a byte database (non-Unicode) today, you need to convert to Unicode database before you run the IFS upgrade.
Database export and import considerations¶
In IFS Cloud, some objects are placed in the other schemas than the application owner schema. This must be considered when a database is exported and imported, i.e. you cannot just export/import the application owner schema, then you will miss:
- Other IFS users (IFSSYS, IFSINFO, etc.). The IFSINFO schema also own some objects, e.g. the IALs but also a package for fetching data into the IALs
- Ctx Index DRX$ERR_KEY
- FNDSESSION_CTX Context
- A context per enumeration and entity with state machine
- Application search policies
Some of these are re-created if you run the Prepare Database step, some other demand a full database deployment, whilst some other must be manually re-created. Only a full export/import, where only the internal Oracle schemas are excluded, is the guarantee to include all objects. However, after an import, the Oracle Advanced Queues tend to be disabled. If so, they must manually be enabled.
Note: Export/Import is not considered part of the IFS Cloud application. It is part of an Oracle DBA responsibility
Upgrade from Extensions¶
IFS Cloud supports direct upgrades from Global Extension versions 9 and 10. For IFS Cloud 24R2 release, following limitations exists.
Users who are using localization functionalities of following countries are able to upgrade to the release of IFS Cloud 24R2.
- Spain
- Italy
- France
- Poland
- Czech Republic
- Hungary
- Slovakia
- India
- Portugal
- Turkey
- South Korea
- Vietnam
Note: For users using localization functionalities of countries not listed above, upgrading may lead to loss of functionalities hence not recommended, since those are not fully supported in the 24R2 release.
Upgrade from Brazilian Extension¶
The solution to support operations in Brazil has been completely redesigned in IFS Cloud. The new approach for this localization is not based on the previous solution offered in the Global Extension product. There are significant differences in architecture, making direct migration impractical. As an alternative, some information can be migrated directly through the Avalara partner portal for Tax Reporting purposes. Please refer to the documentation below for further details. - Preparation Document for IFS Cloud Brazil
